the anti-emo diaries

it's time to grow up.

This is the end.

Or more like the beginning.

I have broken away form the mainstream, and have gone independant.

www.dericjtan.net is up and running. It's not in the final version yet, but at least it's there. And someone left a comment even before I announced that it is done!

Over the 21-22 months that this place is up, people have come and gone, people have come to love and hate this blog. No matter what, it remains a great place for memories.

Here are some highlights of what I've been through the last 22 months.

1. Launch
http://de_iceberg.blogspot.com started on the 24th of May 2004. Back then it was called an iced place, and I know, it was childish. Oh well, I was only 20+ years old that time. What'd you expect?

2. Euro 2004
Greece won it. Now, when I look back at it, I still laugh at the thought that Zidane, Figo, Gerrard, Cannavaro, Ballack, Nedved all lost the crown to a bunch of guys who started the Olympics (with the condition that everyone ran naked), do nothing but think of 'great' philosophies all day, and shouts "Eureka!" instead of "Goal!"

3. Injury
Fell down while racing on a skateboard. Let's just say I have a ego issue.

4. NOC III
And some repercussions that led to some emotional moments for me. Just a phase.

5. Wasted 2 months doing nothing
For the 1st time, MMU had a 2 month break, and I wasted it all away.

6. Liverpool winning the 2005 Champions League
Just as how champions win.

7. Think
This is when I started blogging more thoughtfully. Philosophical? Deep? I don't know.

8. Audio Warfare
We got 3rd place. Not too bad at all.

9. Seoul
Had fun in Seoul. Nothing beats the combination of cold weather and hot chicks.

10. Metrosexuality
Got comments that I've turned metro after my Korea trip. Hmm.

11. National Conference
Genting Highlands. A combined conference with 400+ students from all over campuses in Malaysia. What an experience. And I held our campus' banner upside down at the opening ceremony.

12. Delirious?
Saw them live. Just fantastic.

13. NOC IV
My very last NOC.

14. Kelantan
Joined a mission trip to Kota Bahru, and played bass for the 1st time. Feels great.

15. Prom
Got a date for prom. Booyah!

16. Final
Final Year Project, Final Exams, Final Trimester, Final IF Camp.

17. Transport
Got my car. Now what's left is the chick(s).

18. Industrial Training
Now, that was fun. I had a really great time.

19. World Cup
The freaking Italians won, and South Korea got kicked out in the 1st round. Man.

20. Corporation
Had a short but fun time with Sam & Billy in a self created corporation. It didn't work out fully, but we gained some experience from it. We managed to actually sell nothing!

21. Kota Kinabalu
Did the imaginable: Climb Mount Kinabalu, bathe under the stars with a pipe, a eye opening mission trip.

22. Guest Blogger
Yup, for while I was away, this blog is still alive. Bet you still don't know who it is.

23. Wedding
Played the wedding march. Darn nervous. The most nervous I've ever been in my whole life.

24. Work
Started work, and relocated from Melaka to KL.

25. Domain
Bought a domain name.

Thus, I'm bringing an end to this post. Hope you have enjoyed this journey as much as I have.

See you in another site.

I woke up one morning and suddenly had an urge to go out and buy something.

The jacket I wanted would cost too much.

Cologne would fall into the same category.

Neck ties can only bring temporary satisfaction. When you wear them.

A handphone is, well, just unnecessary at the moment.

So, I bought a domain name.

www.dericjtan.net will be coming to your homes very soon.

Watch this space!

And the no. 1 question relatives ask during Chinese New Year,

"So, got girlfriend already ah?"

The apparent modus operandi of family reunions.

It's story time again.

This story is purely fictional. Any resemblance to characters in real life are purely coincidental and are of my fault.

Once upon a time, there lived a boy, who grew into a man when he entered University,

and graduated a boy again.

He moved to the big city,

worked in this building,

in a company that gave him lots of credit to make phone calls,

He worked hard, and since his family wasn't in the city, and he didn't have much friends around, he worked late, knowing that no one will be worried. He just finished his 2nd month, and can't wait to finish his 3rd month, where he'll be off his probation. Just like a criminal fresh out of jail.

But when he got lonely, he called the world.

He called his friends, family, and friends.

If he came back from work early, he might look up the auditor,

or the unemployed (not for long).

If both were busy, he'd watch a movie or two.

Recently, he caught a movie called,

He liked it very much, and wants to be like the main character, Nick Naylor.

He hasn't backslided/committed suicide/jumped off Menara Maxis/dip his head into a bucket of cyanide. The most he would do to hurt himself was to pump his body full of cholesterol, calories, caffeine and MSG. Anf of course, forcing insomnia on himself.

He has a sudden interest in:

and

Well, the 2nd one is more of an addiction.

And that's about it for now. His story is until here, and future updates might be rare and scarce. I guess the boy, or man, just wants the world to know that he's fine, enjoying his work, and yearn for good company. Just like any other human being.

Cheers.

So much I want to blog about, so much so that I want to go home.

Doesn't make much sense, eh.

If I go home, I can't blog. My house's line has gone cuckoo.

If I stay in the office to blog, I can't go home.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Life is all about it.

Now the only ones left in the office are me and a female colleague.

I'm gonna persuade her to go dinner with me, then go back home.

Welcome to my life.

Old

You know you're old when you enter someone's house, their 5/6 year old daughter calls you "Uncle".

Oh, shut up.

Like every other normal human being, I have a wishlist of my own.

1. Cologne (Don't ask me why.)
2. An iPod/Discman
3. World peace
4. A nice semi-formal/formal jacket form Dockers
5. 8 days a week, 5 weeks a month, and 413 days a year

Yeah, that's about it.

And of course, time to spend with family and friends.

That is priceless.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I like my work.

But I dread the moment I reach 6pm.

That's when I go home.

To nobody, to emptiness.

To loneliness.

I don't mean to whine here, but sometimes, you just really miss some people, some really good friends, some really good company. People you've poured your heart to for 4 years.

Oh well.

Look at this:

Monday - KL -> Kuching
Tuesday - Kuching -> JB
Wednesday - JB -> KL
Thursday - KL -> Kuantan -> KL
Friday - KL -> Penang -> KL

1 whole week on different roadshows in different places.

What have I got myself into?

A whole new world - A world of endless travelling!

Yeah baby!

P/S Guest Blogger, wanna guest blog again? You can redeem yourself!

In a few minutes time, I'll be shutting off my computer, thus making my last blog post in Melaka.

To MMUCF,
This has been the highlight of my university life, the friends, the events, the lessons of life learnt...

It has been wonderful.

To Pastor Joanne and City Community Church,
I thank God for a church I can serve, a church that is not limited by organisation-set-boundaries, and of course a church that provides opportunity after opportunity. Amen.

To PG 165,
Thank you for the chance to play alongside some of the best musicians in the world. Never in my wildest dreams I have ever knew this would happen: Performing for a Christmas Musical (NOC III), playing in a Battle of the Bands cmopetition, writing my own song for presentation purposes.

Thanks for the good stress relieving times. We will get that record done!

To my UG homies,
It has been a short stay with you guys, but I have enjoyed every moment of it. The deep conversational talks with Lionel, the meaningless nonsense conversations with Joash, and the stupid useless stuff I do with Mark.

Nothing's better than staying in a place with 3 other single guys who don't bring their girlfriends home, and who I can walk naked around in the house.

I will edit this post to make it more personal in the future.

Until then, so long and good night.
